Remembering a Friend and Industry Icon: John Neugent

Two views of a black and yellow bicycle saddle labeled "TRICO," with a close-up showing a metal bracket labeled "SPLIT-RAIL PAT'S PEND.

It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of John Neugent’s passing. For those in the cycling industry, John wasn’t just a behind-the-scenes figure—he was a driving force. During my racing years, he was one of my greatest supporters—first through Sachs (Grip Shift), then later through Trico Sports. Even if you never met John, chances are his work influenced something you ride today.

After I hung up my race wheels, John brought me into the Trico Split Rail Saddle project—my first consulting role. That saddle was decades ahead of its time, and the lessons I learned from it continue to influence my design work today at NINETYK.

After Trico, John founded Neuvation Cycling, and to this day, I still enjoy riding the wheels he created—not only because they’re cool, but because they’re affordable, durable, and built with passion.

Beyond business, John was just a genuinely cool and generous person. He even hosted a couple of bike-fitting clinics for me over the years—something I’ll never forget.

Here’s a thoughtful piece from Bicycle Retailer that captures some of John’s legacy: Industry icon John Neugent dies at 76 | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

Bike Fitters in the Spotlight: The Outspoken Cyclist

Close-up of embroidered text with "OUTSPOKEN CYCLIST PODCAST" and "Podcasting Since 2010" overlaid in bold, white letters.

If you haven’t listened to The Outspoken Cyclist, now’s the time. Hosted by longtime bike fitter and industry advocate Diane Jenks, this podcast has featured some of the most respected voices in cycling—Wayne Stetina, Levi Leipheimer, John Howard, Richard Schwinn, and many others.

Diane was fitting bikes before most even knew what bike fitting was.

A man with glasses and a goatee smiles at the camera in a modern waiting area, with a water bottle and bag on the counter beside him.

I was recently honored to be a guest on the show. Diane is thoughtful, prepared, and genuinely passionate about elevating our craft.
