The truth is simple: The bike changes you…
Why Pedal Spacers Matter More Than You Think

When we walk, run, jump we naturally choose (self-select) our own stance width. But the moment we clip into a bike, the bike chooses for us.
As fitters, our job is to return the rider to a stance that matches their body. Skip the front view or ignore stance width, and you’re missing one of the most important variables in bike fitting. Are you doing your job?
Remember: the truth is the bike changes people. We’re here to help them change less.

Before and after pedal spacer
Last week I worked with a rider whose knees were fighting for space on every pedal stroke. One pedal spacer changed everything. The before-and-after front view looked like two different riders — and their smile told the whole story.
If you’re a fitter and not looking at stance width, knee tracking, and how the foot meets the pedal, you’re leaving comfort and performance on the table.

Am I Weird?
I’ve noticed something over the years: a lot of fitters guard their space like they’re hiding state secrets. Maybe they’re intimidated. Maybe they think someone is going to “steal” their technique. Me? I’m different. If you are a bike fitter and show up at my office while I’m doing a fit, you’re invited to join me. Watch, learn, ask questions — or just hang out.

Here’s Brent Williams of Quest Health (www.questhealth.life), who recently dropped in during a fit — and yes, I put him to work.
